Four years to the day after the
Black Swan junction was closed. The first lift on Saturday 19th July 2008 was slightly ahead of
schedule and took place at 2230 with a crowd
of well wishers from the local villages watching their new bridge move
slowly into position. The operation in twilight was spectacular and very
smooth once the load had been balanced up two men holding a blue rope
guided it into perfect position in just a few minutes. Aided and abetted
by a very powerful crane ballet. The sky was overcast but fortunately
flat calm. |

The second lift required
considerably more setting up with the crane moving to a new position,
additional struts added to the second deck segment before it was lifted
and various housekeeping tasks. Most people drifted away as the rain
became heavier and colder, but a steady stream of people arrived to see
the bridge lift in progress right up to the end as folk returning from a
night out stopped to see the final stage. Weather became very wet at
times so only a hardy few stuck it out to the completion of the final
lift. |
