Engineers from Autolink and contractors close off the central reserve gap as the "Experimental" traffic order comes into force. It looks very temporary at this stage. Note the speed blur on the black car travelling southbound. They worked through the night to remove all the old lines and mark out the junction again. |

The next morning with many more cones and a big go left sign with lots of white paint. Strangely all references to villages West of the A19 have disappeared from the A19 southbound carriageway. It is now diabolical to get home in the evening. All the remaining routes are bad - some are worse than others. No U-turn signs for 3 miles either side of the junction. |

The final straw. Three months later and the pub is dead - driven out of business. The final "temporary" barrier now looks very very permanent. Cycling clubs still use this route and manhandle their bikes over the central reservation at weekends. There are no barrier gaps despite there being a de facto public footpath from the villages on the West to the pub. Not that the pub is worth visiting any more. Galvanised steel shutters have been added after this photograph was taken. |
Bye bye Black Swan.
